Below are some of our favourite meals to be found around Montenegro...and some great drinks to accompany them!
Drink
Wine
First lets start off with the most important thing....
On your right is Vranac Barrique which should be your red wine of choice if it's a special occasion. (circa 13 euros in the supermarket)
After that you have Vranac Pro Corde, another really good mid level wine at around 6 euros in shops.
Finally there is Plantaze Vranac which is the standard table wine served in restaurants and can be bought for around 3 euros in shops. personally despite the low cost i think this is still a really great drink and definitely not worth turning your nose up at.
Beer
There are 2 main beers in Montenegro
Niksicko pivo & Niksicko Tamno.
The former a local lager and the later the dark beer version. Both excellent in our humble opinion.
Cost is low both in shops and restaurants. A large 1.5litre of beer in the supermarket setting you back about 3 euros or so.
Food
Stuffed Squid (with prosciutto or prawns)
njegosi prosciutto
amazing local ham made in the hills above Kotor. This is the finest ham in the region and there to rival Spanish and Italian ham. eat with local cheese, salad and homemade bread and you wont get far wrong.
Krempita
Montenegrins love a dessert, but this is hands down our favourite. It's a vanilla and custard cream dessert with a puff pastry base very popular in this region and especially Kotor. The nearest equivalent to this is probably Mille-feuille.
Ćevapi
Sausages! And very nice they are too!
