We want you to have a memorable stay and we hope come back and join us again.

So we have provided below some of the many things to do in and around Kotor, as well as more attractions in the further away section if you want to go a bit further afield.

Swim in the bay

No trip to Kotor is complete without a swim in the gorgeous bay surrounded by the beautiful mountains all around you.

Kotor Old Town

Kotor is a world UNESCO heritage site. Time travel back to a Europe of moated walled towns with shadowy lanes and stone churches on every square. It's a beautiful place to get lost for an hour or two of an afternoon, whilst finding a hidden gem of a cafe and enjoying a lovely glass of local red wine (vrnac) and Njegosi ham and cheese. Perfect.

Plavi Horizonti beach

Montenegro is a coastal country so is blessed with many beutiful beaches. Plavi Horizonti is the best beach for children and is only a 10 minute drive from Kotor. The beach itself is beautiful, the water flat, the depth shallow in the initial stages which makes it a safe environment for children. Grab a deck chair and a drink, sit back and enjoy the wonderful views...

Perast

Perast is probably the most beautiful village / town in all of Montenegro. An oversized village consisting almost entirely of elegant baroque palaces and churches, romantic Perast forms a worthy centrepiece to the entire bay of Kotor. A must see and only a 20 mins drive from Kotor. Make sure you get one of the local boatmen to give you a ride over to (5 Euros per person) the stunning Catholic church - Our lady of the rock situated on a man-made island just a few hundred metres off shore.

According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by the seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea - upon returning from each successful voyage, they laid a rock in the Bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. The custom of throwing rocks into the sea is alive even nowadays. Every year on the sunset of July 22, an event called fašinada, when local residents take their boats and throw rocks into the sea, widening the surface of the island.

Kotor Old town city walls

Feeling like a bit of exercise? Then take a stroll up the fortress walls that ascend into the hills around the town of Kotor. It's a lovely walk, if a little sweaty...just make sure you bring some water with you! For your efforts you will be well rewarded with some great views of the town and the bay beyond

Lovcen

The drive to Lovcen is known as one of the world’s great drives. When you’re not driving around steep hair pin bends with sheer drops, you can enjoy the ever increasing vistas as you enter into the mountains with views over the Adriatic.

The reason you are driving here though is to get to Njegos Mausoleum, the highest in the world. A tomb guarded by 2 granite giantesses. Inside the tomb, under a canopy of gold, there rests a great hero, lying in the arms of a giant eagle. This fairy tale location is the final resting place for the very real 19th century Vladika (bishop / prince) Petar II Petrovic Njegos. The simple but affecting structure and monumental statuary do little to distract from the remarkable views over all of old Montenegro.

beach club & Porto Montenegro

Situated 10 mins drive from Kotor is the town of Tivat in the next bay along from Boka bay. Within Tivat is Porto Montenegro, a relatively new deep water port development, made on the site of the old Yugoslav naval base. It now houses the luxury super yachts of the millionaire rich and famous. Go and take a stroll around the massive yachts and try to work out how you are going to afford to one day buy your own.

Then, at the end of the pier is beach club. It's an amazing 60+m infinity pool. Book ahead to avoid disappointment, but worth a day out there if you want a day of luxury.

Yachts/ boat hire

There are many places to hire boats in and around the bay.

Although we have never done this ourselves - we have heard good things about taking a day cruise aboard the Monty B (owned and operated by an English couple) -  www.montenegro4sail.com

If you just want to explore the bay, and having a fish, then there is the option of renting a boat from our cousin, and your hosts, Miro's. Just speak to Lidija for prices and availability.

Almara beach club

Cool beach club 20 mins drive from Kotor. Get there early if you want to secure a beach bed.

PARAGLIDING

If you really want a high thrill adventure then what better way then to throw yourself off the side of a hill and glide down into Kotor the scenic way.
